Monday, August 4th marked the opening day of summer band camp for the Carroll Dragon Band. Experienced band members welcomed incoming freshmen and new band members, as the band worked on fundamentals, exercises, and began working its 2014 competition show, "Rise."
As always, health and safety come first ... and for Summer Band, that means lots of water breaks, lots of sunscreen, and lots of emphasis on physical fitness (warmups, stretches, coordination exercises).
During Summer Band, the students are in place and ready to begin every morning at 7:30 ... and they work hard until 3:30pm (including a 90-minute break at midday. Is it easy to spend this kind of time and effort in the Texas heat? To put it in the words of one Dragon Band student: "No way. But then again, nothing worthwhile ever is."
